Navigating safely through the vastness of cyberspace

Cyberspace is like an endless ocean: fascinating, but sometimes unpredictable. Without a safety compass, you can quickly get lost…

🌐 The infinity of cyberspace? Your digital playground.

Imagine an immaterial world where all our information circulates (our emails, documents, conversations, photos and even our banking transactions), a universe without borders, constantly expanding: networks, services, connected objects, applications… that allow us to interact, work and exchange data on a global scale.

Imagine an ocean: magnificent, powerful, but sometimes rough, where navigation requires compasses and landmarks. It is a space of freedom where threats are real and invisible.

⚠️ Risks and dangers
  • For businesses : data theft, ransomware, loss of trust.
  • For individuals : phishing, identity theft, privacy violations, deepfakes.

🔐 What is cybersecurity? Your digital life jacket.

Cybersecurity encompasses the practices, technologies and behaviours aimed at protecting our systems, data and identities from digital attacks. It is based on the CID triad (Confidentiality • Integrity • Availability).

🧠 The CID Triad? The 3 pillars of cybersecurity
  1. 🔒 Confidentiality: Protecting our secrets. This ensures that only authorised persons can access information. Think about your password, a strategic document or our customers’ personal data. Ensuring confidentiality means preventing information from falling into the wrong hands.
    • Your role : Do not share your login details, lock your session, avoid visual hacking (see our quiz!).
  2. 📝 Integrity: Ensuring the reliability of our data. This involves ensuring that information has not been modified, altered or destroyed in an unauthorised manner. Imagine if a figure in a financial report were deliberately changed, or a production document were corrupted. Integrity ensures that information is accurate and complete.
    • Your role : Verify the sender of an email before clicking on it, report any anomalies in a file or system.
  3. ✅ Availability: Ensuring access to what we need. This is the certainty that systems and information are accessible and usable when we need them. A denial-of-service (DDoS) attack or a major outage that prevents access to our work tools directly impacts availability. Without availability, our business grinds to a halt.
    • Your role : Do not download suspicious software, report any unusual malfunctions that could be related to a cyberattack.

🌐Why is cybersecurity everyone’s business?

Each of us is an essential link in this chain of protection. A single mistake, a single unfortunate click, can potentially compromise the confidentiality, integrity or availability of our systems and data.

The Cyber Squad is here to support you, train you and provide you with the necessary tools. But it is your daily vigilance, your digital common sense and your ability to report any suspicions that are our greatest assets.

By understanding these fundamental concepts, we can work together to build a safer and more resilient digital environment.

In short : security is everyone’s business – not just that of specialists.

🛡️ A few simple steps to remember
  1. Check the sender before opening an attachment.
  2. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) whenever possible.
  3. Use a password manager and avoid reusing passwords.
  4. Report any suspicious behaviour or emails immediately.

Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section. The Cyber Squad is always here to help!
